This is such a great way to save money and add better flavor to your baking!
5 Vanilla Beans
1 bottle Vodka
On a cutting board, run a sharp knife down the center of each vanilla bean, just to open a slit in the side of the pod. Then place the whole pod inside your bottle of Vodka, and wait 4-6 months. The color will start to darken, and the more time you give your vanilla, the darker and richer it will be. You can also pour the Vodka into a more decorative bottle, and add a cute label, if you want to spice it up. It makes great gifts for Christmas! This bottle is just an empty vintage soda bottle. I like using a clear bottle so I can tell how dark it's getting. Then I just got a cork to fit into the top, and voila!
Where to get your vanilla beans - I got mine at Costco, but you can also order them online at places like Beanilla.com, or even Amazon.
